Mikasa: Table Setting Series December

Setting Your Table for Christmas
Ahh, it’s that time of year. The most gorgeous table settings come out tempting us at every store we know and love. It’s so much fun to look at, but again these things can be so expensive! And it’s the season of gifting no less. Welcome back to another blog covering how to set your table each season with the same classic dinnerware, but make it feel fresh and like something out of a Williams Sonoma magazine without spending an arm and a leg or spending anything at all. If you read the previous two blogs, thank you so much for continuing this journey with me. If this is your first time here, welcome! I’m so happy you could come along this little monthly journey of setting beautiful tables with low monthly contribution because let's be honest, life is not getting any cheaper. If this is your first time, I highly suggest going back to read the first one to see more of the initial breakdown if you were interested in purchasing the white Mikasa dinnerware set that is showcased for each of these blogs.
Christmas is the season of pulling out the lovely things we save all year, so many of us already have an arsenal of decorations which can make this all the easier. But it’s so easy to want the newest trends every year. If you have a high quality base to work off of, such as the Mikasa dinnerware set, then buying one or two things extra to add to it is no big deal.
For this December table setting, we have the same dinnerware as well as the same gold flatware. The centerpiece can be anything you already have, for this one I chose to use just a plain mason jar filled with golden hollies and poinsettias. I placed some disposable Christmas napkins in the center of the plate that for the whole set is less than $6. They're beautiful and add an ambiance by themselves but most importantly they’re functional and will be used.
The table runner adds a good pop of color that contrasts with all of the traditional reds that can be thrown together. We carry this table runner here at the store and it's less than $25 and is 100% cotton. High quality for a great price? Yes please. The small red glass was added in because often hosting around Christmas time a variety of drinks is offered both hot and cold. This is just a suggestion but is totally optional.
It’s all tied together with some red salt and pepper grinders and a cute bowl with a holiday saying on it. A tiny little jam spreader with an adorable gnome on top never hurts to add either (im giggling inside at this, he’s too cute not to add!).
Side Note: Inside that bowl I placed a jar of our Christmas jam. If you’ve never tried Christmas jam, it’ll rearrange your taste buds. Bursting with so much flavor it’s actually crazy. Cranberries, strawberries, orange peel and clove all put together in a perfect jar that sings the rhythm of Christmas in a jar, it’s world changing.
Christmas is such a fun time of year and allows people to decorate to their hearts desire, being sensible is always wise BUT going overboard is totally acceptable and fun.
I hope you all have a beautiful and wonderful Christmas, and let your creativity in your home and dining rooms fly free this year!
Till next month,
Miranda
